Due to the recent acquisition of a BlackMagic Intensity Pro, I have also capped a few of my own angles.
This montage showcases a selection of clips that make me smile, and nothing else. When I started this project ten months ago they were probably reasonably decent, but now thanks to the release of Dutchy's montage they might as well be clips from Call of Duty, so unworthy of comparison are they. Hopefully this montage can appeal to more than just your desire to see Halo at its best, as I feel that is where its strength lies.
I originally had the idea to do a montage with a custom HUD about two years ago, and did an experimental video with altered medals but nothing on this scale before. This is a complete HUD change, including medals, icons and even radar. The only aspects of the HUD I have omitted are things that take ages to implement but add nothing to gameplay - namely, the timer and the text feed on the bottom left. Everything else is there.
This project has quite frankly been a nightmare, and the cause of many a headache for both myself and Goose. I unwisely edited the first half in Ulead Video Studio, which is why some of it seems choppy - it appears Ulead is totally inept at slowing down clips, and I sincerely hope this doesn't detract from the viewing experience an unacceptable amount. Just the other day, as I was nearing release, Vegas crashed and thereafter continuously refused to open the project file. I genuinely thought my months of hard work had been ruined, but luckily I managed to identify the problem and find a way around it after many agonising hours. I continuously ignored the obvious need to use a newer version of Flash, mainly because I didn't want to shake up the system I had going for my editing, but this unfounded determination hindered me frequently, because Flash would lag any time I imported video into the timeline, and sometimes, with lengthy clips, completely refuse to render them to uncompressed AVI, meaning I had to find reasonable alternatives.
Along the same lines, I must give a giant shoutout to SillyGoose for his participation in this project. He has been immeasurably patient each and every time I've requested extra angles or for him to re-capture anything. I could never thank and PayPal him enough for his help!
This editing of this project was as chaotic and scatty as the layout of its folder. I edited most of the first and second half on my old laptop, which took an age, which also meant that I did all the drawings/tracings with the track pad, because I was at university and had forgotten to bring my graphics tablet. Even recently I have been drawing with a mouse resting on paper because a) I can't get used to the tablet again and b) I keep forgetting to buy a mouse pad. So unstable was the creation of this montage that I'm frankly both amazed and relieved that it all came together in the end...
The amount of time this montage demanded, and the levels of stress it caused me, make it very unlikely that I will ever attempt something this huge again. Maybe I'll feel differently in a year or so, but right now I can't think of anything worse. It has been an unshakeable weight on my shoulders, and to have finally finished it is simply the most amazing feeling.
Anyway, as I'm at risk of everyone dying of boredom before they ever get to watch this, and as I doubt anyone will read all this self-congratulatory tl;dr, I'll leave it here. Watch and enjoy."
